Martin Ritzmann and Rebecca Tucker of Mehl Sourdough
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT THE MARKET?
We have been at the Barossa Farmers Market since January 2014, setting up the stall after Martin moved to Australia in 2013 from Germany with a strong interest in healthy traditional German style breads. (Mehl – means ‘flour’ in German!)
WHAT PRODUCTS DO YOU SELL?
Sourdough bread and crumpets, including a fennel, caraway and mixed seed loaf; spelt loaf; fruit loaf; vollkorn loaf; plus white and spelt crumpets.
HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR PRODUCTS?
We make the bread together (the two of us) over a three day process, with the markets being our only outlet for our weekly bake.
WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT YOUR PRODUCTS?
Our products are all made with our sourdough culture that was given to us by a fellow baker and which had been handed on by many other bakers. We do not use any bakers yeast and use all organic flours from Laucke Flour Mills and Four Leaf Milling.
WHO WILL CUSTOMERS MEET AT YOUR STALL?
Market shoppers can meet us both at our stall each week. We really look forward to the markets every Saturday to catch up with our regular customers!
