YOUR LOCAL FARMERS MARKET UPDATE
Real food from the farms and homes of the Barossa
Peter Tate of Peter’s Backyard Produce Stall
TELL US ABOUT YOUR STALL AT THE MARKET?
I grow a range of backyard fruit in Nurioopta which I sell at the market. I’ve had a stall on a seasonal basis at the market for the last 3-4 years.
WHAT FRUIT ARE YOU SELLING AT YOUR STALL?
Currently I have table grapes, rhubarb and plums. This week I should have the first of my raspberries and in coming weeks I’ll have quinces too. The quinces are the pineapple variety which is great for making jam, paste or for stewing.
HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED IN THE MARKET?
I was a carpenter by trade, working locally and overseas but in more recent years I helped another stallholder at the market before expanding to start my own stall. I’m in my 70’s now but this keeps me busy, as does volunteering as a community helper 3 days per week.
