Grant Dickson
Grant is probably best known for his passionate roles in wine and food that date back to Rockford and the Barossa stalwart restaurant, fermentAsian. But delve back to Grant’s younger years, growing up in Sydney and you find a passion for music and Orchestra.
Jumping forward many years and Grant’s brief summary goes like this…. Specialist music high school in Sydney, training at the Conservatorium of Music, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, 750 performances of Phantom of the Opera, travelling the world performing Miss Saigon – and a career high of being asked to play principal Cor Anglais in Wagner’s ‘epic’ Ring Cycle.
Grant’s most recent venture is Otherness Wines at Angaston. This wine bar and restaurant is more than simply that. Otherness is a place for community to frequent often, a place that welcomes and respects all, a home for many who become regulars, a place for staff to be supported, develop and flourish, a food and wine offering that challenges and changes regularly to keep all nourished and inspired.
To Grant, ‘Otherness’ – means different. To respect those who tread a path less followed, and who do what they do with passion and heart. A wonderful place indeed.

After studying Pharmacology at Adelaide University in the 1980s, his direction changed when his parents became grape growers at Clare, igniting a passion for wine through a blend of hospitality and viticulture.
