A busy Barossa
Festivals, footy and friendships have showcased the Barossa in spectacular style, during an extra busy April, celebrating the very essence of community.
Kicking off with the completion of “Barossa Park”, The Barossa Council’s largest and fastest infrastructure build ever, the joint initiative with the South Australian Government saw Lyndoch Recreation Park transformed into a multi-use precinct overlooking hills and vineyards.
Using local trades to the value of about $4 million, with 97 per cent of all works supplied by SA businesses, it was a sight to behold when crowds of 10,000 fans flocked to the $45.7 million co-funded venue each day to witness a double-dose of AFL Gather Round action.
Barossa Park’s picturesque backdrop was beamed across the nation, further cementing the region as a premier events and tourism destination in its debut run.
Accommodation was booked out and “Bounce Around the Barossa” buses transported almost 4,000 passengers to more than 45 local businesses, wineries and townships across the district, contributing to a bumper weekend of trade.
The inaugural, “Festival of Footy – Barossa Food and Wine Village” attracted an estimated 7,000 people to the main street of Tanunda, enjoying local restaurants, cafés, bars, maker’s market and live music, while watching matches on the big screen and absorbing the atmosphere.
Footy fever having subsided, the buzz continued with the Barossa Vintage Festival celebrating food, wine, heritage and culture – the region’s famous hospitality and sense of community shone yet again.
More than 85 events were featured in a jam-packed program, from traditional favourites like the Ziegenmarkt, grape stomping, scarecrow trail and Vintage Parade, to new additions including; Club Vintage, Touchdown and Taste Off, Teddy Bears’ Picnic and more.
And with delegates from The Barossa Council’s Sister City, Grapevine Texas, in town at the same time, we saw friendships and opportunities built as they joined the festivities and were inspired by our young people, volunteers and community spirit.
