Barossa Village is a community-focused aged care provider dedicated to enhancing the health and wellbeing of older Australians. They offer a range of services, including independent living, residential care, and in-home support, ensuring residents and clients receive the highest quality of care while staying connected to their community.
Barossa Village staff and residents have been wearing bright, colourful shirts on Fridays? That’s Funky Shirt Friday, an initiative in partnership with TradeMutt! More than just a fun dress-up day, this vibrant tradition is all about sparking meaningful conversations around mental health, breaking down barriers, and reducing stigma.
Each week, the Barossa Village team and residents don eye-catching shirts designed by TradeMutt, a social enterprise that makes mental health discussions more approachable. The funky shirts serve as a reminder that it’s okay to talk about how you’re feeling — whether it’s sharing personal experiences or simply checking in with a friend.
As we age, staying connected and nurturing our emotional wellbeing becomes even more important. Barossa Village has outlined some simple ways to care for mental health:
Stay Social – Keep in touch with family, friends or community groups. Social interaction can boost mood and help reduce feelings of loneliness.
Keep Active – Whether it’s walking, gardening or another gentle form of exercise, staying active benefits both physical and mental health.
Talk About It – Regularly check in with yourself and others. Sharing feelings with a trusted person—whether a loved one or a professional—can make a world of difference.
Engage in activities that challenge your mind, such as reading, puzzles or learning a new skill.
Barossa Village is dedicated to creating more good days for the community. Through initiatives like Funky Shirt Friday and by providing access to mental health resources, they aim to ensure people feel supported and valued. There is also Barossa Village Community Connections Calendar, which offers opportunities for social engagement, fitness and fun.
Barossa Village aims to keep the conversation going — not just on Fridays, but every day. Because mental health matters at every age.
