A chance meeting at a Queenstown pub while on separate family holidays in New Zealand, sealed the fate of Suzannah Smart and Richard Kruger.
Despite Suzannah living in Brisbane, and Richard in the Barossa, the pair continued their relationship after the holiday travelling back and forth to see each other regularly.
Richard made the move to Queensland, where the couple spent a few years together before moving over overseas, then settling down in the Barossa in 2016.
A romantic proposal at the couple’s favourite look out, Steingarten, followed when Richard surprised Suzannah with an engagement ring he designed himself, followed by dinner at Vintners Bar and Grill, Angaston, the same restaurant they had their first “proper” date 10 years prior.
The couple had originally planned a big celebration, with all of their family and friends,
However, COVID-19 restrictions presented other ideas for their day.
Fortunately, weeks before the couple were due to tie the knot, borders were opened, and restrictions lifted.
So, with the help of their family, friends, and suppliers, the pair pulled together an intimate celebration with 24 of their immediate friends and family, including Suzannah’s 89-year-old Nana from NSW.
The bride’s attendants were Megan Smart, Greta Smart, Tamara Schiller and Megan Heinrich.
The groom’s attendants were Lewis Heinrich, Ben Schiller, Nick Murphy and Joel Fraser.
Their two-tier wedding cake was a combination of the couple’s favourite treats, one tier chocolate brownie cake for Suzannah. The other tier, carrot cake for Richard, created by the mother of the bride.
Following their special day, the newly married couple travelled to Kangaroo Island for their honeymoon, organised completely by Richard, with a surprise private degustation dinner at their accommodation thanks to their friends.
Suzannah is the daughter of Phil and Lisa of Brisbane, and Richard is the son of Roger and Michelle, of Tanunda.
The couple are expecting their first child this month.
