Australia’s first regional wine cellar, The Barossa Cellar at 991 Stockwell Road, Vine Vale, opens its doors to visitors this Spring with a calendar of experiences including weekly tastings, seasonal lunches, and festival events.

Home to Barons of Barossa and Barossa Grape & Wine Association, The Barossa Cellar is a regional flagship, its reason for being to shine a light on all that is made and created in Barossa. It exists to offer visitors experiences, showing the depth of quality wine and food in the region, and a place to keep returning to.

Wine fraternity Barons of Barossa originally launched the concept of a cellar collection of Barossa wines in 2011, putting a call out to wineries to donate their top wines, with an overwhelming response.

As the concept continued to take shape over the ensuing years, so did a substantial fundraising campaign, and thanks to donations from local growers, winemakers, businesses, and individuals, ground was broken at the Vine Vale site in 2018.

With a total project cost around $5 million, the result is a spectacular building with both contemporary and sustainable finishes of stone, wood, and glass. Its demure outside belies the sense of space and style within.

The Grand Hall running through the centre of the building can seat 100 guests and the 42m-long secure, temperature-controlled Wine Vault in the heart of The Barossa Cellar houses a 3,000-bottle collection of wines from iconic Barossa wineries and small producers alike.

The Barossa Cellar is a dream realised, built, and funded by the power of community spirit. A continuous showcase of the diversity and authenticity of wine from Australia’s two great wine regions: Eden Valley and Barossa Valley.

Barossa Grape & Wine Association, CEO James March sees the association’s role as custodian of The Barossa Cellar and its esteemed collection of wines. As the newly appointed Customer Experience Manager, I’m honoured to bring The Barossa Cellar to life, it’s a place to take in the glories of Barossa, admire the views, glass in hand. An invitation to taste, learn and enjoy how well Barossa wines age.

To celebrate October, the month of Eden Valley Riesling, we’ll be offering weekly Riesling tastings, including back vintages from the Wine Vault. Ongoing weekly themed Tastings will include Langton’s Exceptional Wines, Think you know Grenache, Nothing but Riesling, Wine Tasting 101 and plenty in between.

Bookable via barossawine.com, these small group tastings offer guests the rare opportunity to compare new and aged styles from Barossa and Eden Valley.

Seasonal lunches and dinners are on the calendar too, bringing chefs and winemakers to the table, giving guests genuine insight into Barossa’s wine and food culture and lifestyle.

Recent events, Tasting Australia’s Masters Apprentices, A Little More Barossa’s Three Little Pigs and Barossa Vintage Festival’s Ancient Vines & Museum Wines are just a snapshot of what’s ahead.

Boardroom meetings, team building workshops and corporate sessions paired to local food and wine can also be arranged.
