HOW DOES YOUR ROLE HELP PEOPLE LIVING INDEPENDENTLY?

Tom: My role is designed to put a support network into place for existing residents and for people joining the Barossa Village community.  Integrated care is all about sequencing the timing of getting what you need, in time for when you need it.
Brad: With my team, we help people feel safe and comfortable in and around their own home.  Each home is different and we take an individual approach to job requests, making sure that jobs are completed to the high standard expected of Barossa Village.

WHAT DO YOU DO THAT HELPS PEOPLE WITH RETIREMENT LIVING?

Tom: It’s mainly about sharing information and news about aged care and talking to people about creating a plan to achieve goals in their life. I work with clients who are first joining Barossa Village in an independent living unit, receiving care in their home, right through to those moving into residential care. It’s all about familiarising people about the aged care journey and what’s available to them.
Brad: We solve people’s issues by taking a professional, but personal approach to a problem they may have within their home. Every day, I feel I’m helping people in some way. Building relationships with Barossa Village residents and clients is certainly something we talk about a lot as a team and these relationships are very important to us, especially as we are working in people’s homes. Trust and reliability are front of mind.

WHAT DO YOU SEE ARE THE BENEFITS OF YOUR ROLE TO THE COMMUNITY?

Tom: My job is all about community. The real benefit is forming relationships either between Barossa Village staff and clients, or between individuals. A great example is our men’s group where there is a real sense of camaraderie and seeing people engaging with each other. It’s not just through what we do, it’s about creating social circles and getting people to connect.
Brad: I like helping people. Apart from maintenance jobs, we get units ready for people to move in, and then continue to support them as residents of Barossa Village. It’s satisfying to create a beautiful home for them and to hear positive feedback once we’ve handed over a unit. It’s about getting it right from the start, which makes the experience better for our clients.
